Grateful For...

… a life to live, my husband to share it with, a little boy who makes me laugh, loving families, friends that care, a supportive and wonderful community, all our needs provided, our daily bread, a cozy home, a warm fireplace, a productive farm, a beautiful valley…
… and most of all an awesome God who love, guides, provides, and protects.

Wishing you all a Happy Thanksgiving!

Fall on the Farm

Ready for Winter

Slowly things are starting to get back to normal around here. Andrew is recovering quite well.
It is funny how things turn out sometimes. We planned to be at the farmer’s markets the whole season but then Andrew got sick. I thought I might still make it to some of the markets, but then it turned out Andrew needed surgery. So the whole process ended up being longer than we expected. Plans changed, some things never got done, but that is okay. The important things did. Friends came over and dug all our potatoes, neighbors brought over firewood, the garden got cleaned up and a neighbor tilled it for us. We are prepared for winter now.
So many have helped us out through this time. Prayers, encouraging words, generosity, meals, an amazing benefit dinner by the Chewelah Farmer’s market.
We live in an amazing community and have wonderful friends! We just want to say thank you to everyone who has been there for us. We are so grateful!

Update

I was planning to be at the markets this week but plans have changed. Andrew is being transferred to Sacred Heart in Spokane tomorrow. He will probably be having surgery on Friday to get his colon removed. So... I will not be at the markets this week. But hopefully next week I will be.

Cabbage

We were able to get a whole bunch of cabbage so I had fun a few weeks ago making sauerkraut and spiced red cabbage. I also tried making some kim chi (sp?).

David Helps Milk

David really enjoys coming out to milk with me. He watches with fascination as the milk squirts out, pets Hannah, and even tries to steal her grain sometimes. Here are some photos I took a few weeks ago of him while I was milking.

Sick...

Hello everyone. Just a quick update to say that Andrew is pretty sick right now and is actually in the hospital. So we haven't made it to the Colville farmers market in a few weeks and I'm not sure if I'll be at any markets this next week. We hope to be back soon.

Fall

It is starting to feel more like fall. There is a chill in the air in the evenings. We have even had several frosts. Much of the garden is nearly done. It is time to harvest the potatoes, the rest of the garlic, and pumpkins and winter squash. Fall has always been one of my favorite seasons. Pumpkins, making apple butter, falling leaves, cozy fires...
It seems to have come a little early this year, summer was short, but I am starting to feel ready for autumn days.

Potatoes

We have started digging up our main crop of potatoes. We have lots of potatoes!
Yukon Gold, Red Norland, Purple Victory, Kennebec White, Fingerlings and Russets are the varieties we have this year. We will have them at the markets and will also be taking bulk orders.

Peach Pie

We are selling organic peaches from Riverview Orchard(just south of Kettle Falls) at the Friday market in Chewelah. They are ripe and delicious! And they make an excellent pie! Come on down and get some.

Produce

Our garden is doing well. The warm days are making everything grow fast now. We have zucchini, crookneck and pattypan squash all ready now. We also are picking green beans. The tomatoes will hopefully be ready soon.

Lucy and Jane

A lady I met at the farmer's market gave me her two ducks. The brown on is Jane and the grey one is Lucy. They are fun to watch out in the backyard. They seem to be settling into their new home very well.

Babies

I got two baby ducks the other day. They are so cute and David enjoys them. He wasn't too sure about having them on his lap though!
